Task 1. Musculoskeletal practical class see blackboard for details. summary of the practical that was undertaken. You should include analysis of your own data (or class data if you were unable to attend). Your summary should include highlights of the key findings and the observations you made during the course of the experiment. You should perform an unpaired, two-tailed t-test for the data sets and provide the p value in your submission. All information about this write up is found under the materials on musculoskeletal biology in sessions 8 and 9.
Task 2: Oncology practical class. (34% weighting) To write a based on the practical that was undertaken. In your anwer you should: describe how we determine whether the abnormal breast sample that we examined is benign or malignant. What is the molecular subtype of this growth and how did we reach that conclusion? How does the molecular subtype inform both the prognosis and treatment for the patient? What do the terms “sensitivity” and “specificity” mean when applied to the use of antibodies for immunostaining in a clinical setting, and why do they matter? How do you think this diagnostic/prognostic process could be improved using appropriate technology?
Task 3: Point of care testing. You will write a short summary discussing the operation and clinical application of the Prothrombin Time assay. Within this, you may want to think about aspects such as how the test works/what it measures, and when/how it can be used clinically. You will need to include references to support your discussion, which should be in UWE Harvard format. Please include a reference list at the end of your short summary.
