In this photovoice project, the phenomenological approach is used to elicit the participants meanings to photographs and gather personal feelings based on surveys (Kwok, 2020). Students were provided with surveys to complete with parental support. Parents were notified via telephone by the ESOL paraprofessional that the surveys would be coming home and their support in completing the surveys would be helpful. Upon completion of the surveys, the students returned them. Each survey shared data of ESOL students’ feelings and identification of support in the school setting. Data was gathered by comparing the answers each student provided. These answers were categorized into similar groups for a better understanding of the majority. The paraprofessional, and myself, interpreted the responses from the surveys to come up with similar responses revealing the needs and effectiveness of the supports students are receiving in the school. The data will be used to strengthen the communication and the English language support ESOL students will receive on campus and at home each day. The leadership team will review the survey responses to create a more inclusive culture in the school setting as well as working to increase ESOL parent participation in decision-making for the school.
